    Service Design

Design Wales first identified service design as an emerging discipline whilst leading a network of European design organisations (SEE Project). Following this, a provocation document was published in September 2008 entitled ‘Design For Service’, that was quickly followed by an in depth study of the same name.

This study into the potential impact of service design on Welsh SMEs was created in partnership with Engine Service Design, illustrating the potential for significant impact on the private and public sectors, as well as on the way in which designers approach their work.

The Service Design Programme was a resource for organisations that want to understand and use design-led service innovation. The programme was founded in July 2010 and launched in January 2011 by Design Wales and Cardiff Metropolitan University to provide practical support and training to organisations, companies and agencies that want to develop skills and expertise in service design. www.theservicedesignprogramme.org Funding for this project was provided by the Welsh Government's Department for Economy and Transport's A4B (Academia for Business) fund. The service design programme was a Knowledge Transfer Centre Project (KTC).
